An ignored problem?

Updated: Jan 5, 2019

A lot of focus has been put on greenhouse gas emissions generated from the energy and transportation sector, whereas the role of animal-based foods has not received nearly as much media attention despite the large share of emissions it is responsible for.

This so called “livestock policy vacuum” is an interesting phenomenon in which a large environmental issue has been ignored for a long time. Considering the contrast between the government support that the livestock sector receives in forms of subsidies and the funding available for measures to tackle this issue, there clearly is a wider-scale issue. In recent years, however, it seems as if the role of livestock has been receiving more attention..

Listen to this interview I did with Dr James Painter where he discusses an upcoming study on how the environmental impact of animal agriculture is portrayed in mainstream media.
